The work self-reflexively explores issues of voyeurism, objectification and Orientalism as discursive practice. The project explores disruptions and fixtures in the video gaze and its relationship to the human body. In a world of shrinking geographies, processes of spectatorship appear to be “directed” in some sense. The nature of this “directedness” raises many questions about the explicitness of “looking” and its penetration of public and private space. The film explores the Orientalist and “watching eye”, using nation and body as subjects: providing opportunities to explore visual processes between the lens and the subject, the self and the Other.
